A beautiful day for a ride out of Calgary's newest park and into Glenbow Provincial Park.  The fall colours were amazing and Ken Parker was busy with his camera.  Hopefully he will post some pictures on this report.  The Haskayne Park has an interpretative centre which is closed most of the time and washroom which are open to the public.

Thank you for that introduction Doug. It was indeed a beautiful cycle through natural fescue grasslands west of Calgary. It started from the Richard Haskayne legacy park (Sept. 26) which just opened to the public the week before (Sept 16). The park features a new paved cycling section that connects to the Glenbow ranch to the west. Here are some of the highlights of the trip.

Much of the fescue grasslands along the Bow River and up through the foothills is virgin ecotone since the retreat of the Wisconsin ice sheet. Someone has enlightened this conservation potential in creating the Richard Haskayne Legacy Park along the Bow River with as little intrusion as possible; hence, the area is copiously signed so as to keep people to the pathway. What's interesting is that nary a weed can be found in this wholly blanket of thick grass ... unless, of course, it gets disturbed by the plough, vehicular roads, train tracks and other disturbances.

It is possible to do a loop to Cochrane, portions are gravel.
