Much of the fescue grasslands along the Bow River and up through the foothills is virgin ecotone since the retreat of the Wisconsin ice sheet. Someone has enlightened this conservation potential in creating the Richard Haskayne Legacy Park along the Bow River with as little intrusion as possible; hence, the area is copiously signed so as to keep people to the pathway. What's interesting is that nary a weed can be found in this wholly blanket of thick grass ... unless, of course, it gets disturbed by the plough, vehicular roads, train tracks and other disturbances.
