Description:

It's forecast to be yet another exceptionally warm winter day. We might as well get off our trainers and skis and do some easy-paced early-season spinning on the bike to get our legs and butts ready for the serious riding to come.

This is a ride meant for early season intermediate cyclists although anyone who is ready for the distance and pace can join. The climbs are limited and we will be cycling more flattish roads at a comfortable group pace. We will be stopping to regroup and recover at major intersections. Occasional stops are important for those who have not been cycling outdoors or on a trainer all winter.

Although the posted ride is 40 km, riders wishing a shorter ride can cut out 10 kms by turning right at hwy 22 at 18.5 km and heading straight for Turner Valley rather than turning left; just be sure to let your coordinator know.

As this is a short ride, there is no formal stop for lunch or washroom breaks although washrooms can be found in Diamond Valley. Snacking can be done at regroupings.

We start at the paved Millarville school parking lot. (Backup is the hockey rink parking lot.)

We can tailgate after the ride in the parking lot as it's supposed to be about +18. Food and drinks can be obtained at the Millarville General Store or at Miss Marples Tea House.

NB: Due to gravel on the roads, particularly around intersections, a road bike with wider tires (e.g., 30mm) or a gravel bike is recommended.

Spring spin #2 will be scheduled when another warm day is forecasted and will be a longer distance at a, perhaps, slightly faster pace. It's useful to do your own rides in the meantime as weather permits to be ready.
