Description:

This popular ride is the shorter version of the whole enchilada ride for those of us wanting an easier ride and still want to cycle the best parts of the whole enchilada ride, saving things like the trip up the Norquay switchbacks for another weekend. We know we can do it; we just don't need to prove it--yet.

Nonetheless, due to the early season, this is considered an advanced ride due to the distance and elevation.

This route includes Canmore to Banff on the Legacy Trail, Lake Minnewanka with a side-trip to Johnson Lake, Tunnel Mountain, views of Bow Falls from both sides of Bow River, and the scenic golf course loop.

We will stop at photogenic sites as needed for those whose trigger finger needs to shoot some photos (e.g., Bow Falls, Banff golf course, etc.)

Those who don't fancy doing Tunnel Mountain Road and Tunnel Mountain Drive twice can take the low shortcut through the townsite on the return to Canmore.

We will stop at Central Park approximately half-way into the ride for a lunch stop, washrooms, and an opportunity to refill water bottles.

There will be a tailgate party after the ride in the parking lot.

Parking: Travel Alberta Canmore Visitor Centre located on the south side of Hwy 1 on the west end of Canmore Service Road. See: https://goo.gl/maps/eNY5ZK1f1JsPwhAUA

Safety:

  • traffic on shared roads; narrow shoulders
  • the bridge crossing on the road to Johnson Lake is single lane
  • we are in bear country, consider carrying bear spray
  • no cell service in some areas (e.g., Lake Minnewanka)
  • steep sections on some roadways (Lake Minnewanka, Tunnel Mountain Road)
