This ride is north of Calgary, an unexplored area for our club and a great opportunity since we will be tagging onto a fund raiser for myeloma (aka multiple myeloma) cancer.   EVCC has volunteered to provide riders to escort Myeloma* Canada fundraising participants along the route on May 11th (which will be fully signed so you won't need to rely on RWGPS) as ride route marshals (follow the rules of the road, ride responsibly and set a good example).  A mobile mechanic and first aid team will be a phone call away.

EVCC president, Don Hollingshead is supporting the event with route design, signage and as the designated bike Mechanic.

Spruce View is approximately 90 minutes from Calgary, west of Innisfail.

Guests: One guest per EVCC member is allowed on this ride.

The Route:

There are 2 routes to choose from, a shorter and more leisurely 54 km and an 75 km. Garry Denman will lead the 54km and Tanya Colwell will lead the 75km route.

EVCC members will have no responsibility except to show up on time, ride with the group and offer encouragement.  Route support, pre-ride and en route refreshments and lunch after the ride (pizza at Spruce View) will be provided.

The route starts at the Spruce View community hall. Spruce View is a farming community west of Innisfail, east of Caroline along Hwy 54.

The long route shares part of the short route as a ride across the Dickson Dam, around Gleniffer Lake rest stop then south through Garrington where we have a water stop and access to the church's restrooms. The route recrosses the Red Deer River then heads north and east back to Spruce View, with the prevailing winds.  It is a relatively flat route (209 m climbing over 54 km) with Rocky Mountain vistas to the west the whole way.

Post ride pizza is provided by Myeloma Canada for the group (made at the Tivoli Café in Spruce View).

The easiest way to reach Spruce View from Calgary is via Hwy 2 to Innisfail then Hwy 54 to Spruce View.

The EVCC is supporting this fund raiser for Myeloma Canada through equipment loans and volunteer expertise to put on the event.   Pace will be dictated by the Myeloma Canada participant's fitness and cycling abilities.

Those wishing to donate to Myeloma Canada are welcome to do so and their contribution would be welcome but there is no requirement to do so.

*Myeloma is Latin for marrow tumor, a form of cancer.   Learn more about the 3 Canadian Myeloma rides and the fund raising efforts.
