ROAD RIDE - LEVEL: Challenging for advanced+ riders, no sweep

Coordinator: Heather Opseth

Distance: 140 km

Pace:  27+ kph, with paceline riding

Elevation Gain: 1,450 m

E-bikes Allowed: No

An epic day in the mountains for those who dare tackle the challenge.

To add to our enjoyment, the 1A between Banff and Johnson Canyon is still closed to vehicles (re-opening June 25).

Due to the length of the ride, we will aim for fewer/shorter stops to keep the group moving. Don't worry, we will have time for photos at Moraine Lake and the classic vista of Morant's curve. We also won't miss stopping for a treat in Lake Louise village!

Safety elements:

  • Be sure to bring layers of warm clothing as weather can be very variable in the mountains. It's easy to get chilled when you stop or descend the longer hills.
  • Bring bear spray.
  • Remember there is no cell service on parts of this route -- be prepared with tools, food, etc.

***Parking Instructions: Banff Train Station Parking Lot***

Parking is in the Eastern section of the Banff Train Station Public Parking Lot located at 327 Railway Avenue. Go through the traffic circle and over the little hill to the main parking (not the "overflow" lot that is closer to the train station). This is free parking, with a 9-hour limit.
